Three-lobed Rudbeckia

Three-lobed rudbeckia seeds produced by Achene.

This plant resembles the hairy coneflower, but is larger, blooms later and for a longer period, and has smaller flowers. The name "trilobate" comes from the dark green basal leaves, which are divided into three oval parts.

Masses of yellow flowers with brown centers enliven the garden in late season, from late summer until the first hard frost.

Three-lobed coneflower tolerates most conditions, but does best in full sun or light shade in sandy, loamy soil. It prefers moderate moisture, but is drought tolerant once established.

Rudbeckia trilobata seeds must undergo cold stratification to ensure germination.
