Hypericum prolificum - Seeds produced by Achene.
Prolific St. John's Wort (Hypericum prolificum) is a compact perennial, typically reaching up to 90 cm in height. It produces an abundance of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers with prominent stamens, which bloom in midsummer, providing a burst of color in naturalistic gardens. Adapted to well-drained soils, prolific St. John's Wort prefers full sun but will also tolerate partial shade, making it versatile for a variety of designs. Its dense, compact growth habit makes it ideal for borders and areas requiring effective ground cover.
Sowing and cultivation
St. John's wort seeds germinate quickly without requiring cold stratification.
Sow them directly on the surface of the soil, without covering them, because they need light to germinate.
Germination typically occurs in 5 to 10 days. Keep the substrate moist and expose the seedlings to indirect light to promote even germination.
St. John's wort is slow-growing, but this beautiful shrub is well worth the effort! Highly adaptable and hardy, it prefers full sun and thrives in almost any soil type, including heavy clay. Drought-tolerant, it is also resistant to hares and deer.
As it flowers on current year's wood, pruning in early spring is recommended.
