In a clump, the effect is spectacular, in addition to being visited by hummingbirds and butterflies of the genus Papilio who love its nectar.
Cardinal lobelia is found growing along riverbanks, near shores and marshes. It is therefore a plant that thrives in cool, moist soils in the garden.
Cardinal lobelia seeds must undergo cold stratification to ensure germination.
