A perennial native to Quebec, this late-flowering plant attracts butterflies and is a valuable late-season food source for many insects.
The New England aster is also the aster that has the most abundant flowering of all the North American asters, producing an impressive quantity of magnificent purplish-mauve flowers with a yellow center.
The aster will find its place as much in your ornamental arrangements as in your vegetable garden to attract pollinators, and will also be used to fill a riparian strip or naturalize sloping land.
